Pekin City Council delays final action in sexual harassment dispute
PEKIN (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) -Pekin City Council decided to hold off on voting whether or not to publicly censure one of its members, after he was accused of sexually harassing a fellow councilwoman.
The council went in closed session for more than an hour Monday night before voting to move the agenda item until next meeting.
Veteran Councilman Lloyd Orrick has been charged by the ethics committee after Councilwoman Karen Hohimer said Orrick bullied and harassed her at least six different times.
Mayor Mark Luft said the delay will give council members time to consider public comments during Monday’s session, mostly supporting Orrick.
The council will decide what Orrick’s punishment will be, but the ethics commission recommends Orrick pay a $500 fine and lose his position as the city’s Mayor Pro Tem.
No charges have been filed in court.
