Man arrested for assault, weapons charges after shooting a gun during a fight

PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - One man was arrested after firing a weapon during a fight at around 6:19 p.m. on Monday, January 10 in the 2000 block of South Friedan after officers responded to reports of shots fired.

According to witness accounts to police, Bilal Wilkins, 27, pulled out a handgun and fired a shot during that fight.

No one was injured.

Police eventually made contact by phone with the other male involved in the altercation. This man confirmed he was not injured but refused to meet with police officers in person.

Witnesses told police that Wilkins left the scene in a vehicle prior to their arrival. A short time later, police conducted a traffic stop and located Wilkins inside the vehicle and he was taken into custody without incident.

Wilkins was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, and Battery.
