Hundreds of anime fans head to ‘Anime-Zap’ in East Peoria
EAST PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Calling all anime lovers! The state’s biggest winter anime convention was at the Embassy Suites in East Peoria Saturday.
More than 1,000 anime fans came out to ‘Anime-Zap’, where they got to enjoy some video games, hear from a panel of anime and artists, and buy gear.
Nearly two dozen vendors were there selling anime art, clothes, posters, jewelry and more.
Many guests came out in their best anime costumes, with some dressed up as Goku, characters from Naruto, Plague Doctor, and more.
“It’s a very similar feeling to our other conventions just less space,” organizer Tobias Tribble said.
“It’s a very welcoming environment and I enjoy seeing everyone here having a good time,” he added.
The event continues at the East Peoria Embassy Suites Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and guests must show proof of vaccination.
