ROANOKE (Heart of Illinois ABC) - It was long overdue but the 2020 Roanoke-Benson boys basketball team finally received their state finalist medals on Friday night ahead of the Rockets game against Ottawa Marquette.

RB advanced to the state final four on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 with a thrilling super-sectional victory. They were all ready to head to Carver Arena to compete for a state championship when their dreams were dashed on Thursday, March 12, as the IHSA made the decision to cancel the remainder of the tournament as the COVID-19 pandemic began.

It was a long road to finally getting to honor the very special team, but plenty of the Rockets players from that squad were able to make it back home to receive their state medals and celebrate on Friday night.
