(Heart of Illinois ABC) - For 36 year, Tim Meiss sat on the home benches at Eureka as the Hornets head coach. On Friday night, he sat on the visitors bench for the first time as an assistant under his son Nathaniel as El Paso-Gridley topped Eureka 55-46 in a great Heart of Illinois Conference battle. Coach Meiss’ grandson, Micah, had eight points for the Titans while Jake Funk poured in 19 and Asa Smith led the way with 20 points. Tyler Heffren scored a game-high 24 points for Eureka.

In Big 12 action, Peoria High topped Bloomington 81-77 in overtime while Normal Community and Normal West both took home wins in conference play.

In a Big 12 vs. Mid-Illini showdown, Richwoods topped Limestone and in Mid-Illini play, Washington took home a win over Canton.

It was a special night at Roanoke-Benson as the Rockets finally got a chance to honor their 2020 state finals team. The Rockets advanced to the state final four on a Tuesday before the rest of the state tournament was shutdown just two days later thanks to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Plenty of players from that RB team returned home on Friday to receive their state finalist medals and celebrate their achievements.

In girls basketball, Morton, Washington and Dunlap took home Mid-Illini victories.
