PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Fifty years ago was the very the first time a patient was treated for cancer at the Jim and Trudy Maloof St. Jude Midwest Affiliate Clinic in Peoria. Ever since then, the organization has been offering world class care to patients, without cost.

Since 1972, St. Jude has been caring for children, focusing on catastrophic diseases, particularly leukemia and other cancers. The organization has offered their care to thousands of children since it began.

Mike McCoy of the Jim and Trudy Maloof St. Jude Midwest Affiliate Clinic, says he’s seen St. Jude grow from small scale fundraising events, to being able to offer care to children across the world, and being able to raise nearly $81 million through various community events.

McCoy says that being a part of the organization, and being fortunate enough to be able to help, is “unbelievable.” He also says that the first, and largest clinic being right here in Peoria, and to being able to celebrate fifty years of care is “huge” for the Heart of Illinois.
