BLOOMINGTON (Heart of Illinois ABC) - One person was injured and one adult and three children were temporarily displaced after a structure fire at a home converted to apartments that was quickly stopped by Bloomington firefighters.

At around 4:24 a.m. Thursday, the fire department was dispatched to the fire in the 900 block of West Market Street.

Arriving crews reported fire coming from the second floor rear west-facing windows. Firefighters made a quick knock on the fire from the exterior and interior.

“Using this quick deploy tactic stopped this fire dead in its tracks and prevented potential further injury and damage to the structure from smoke, fire, and water,” fire department public information officer Eric Davison said.

The upper floor sustained fire and smoke damage while the apartment below sustained only water damage.

Cause and estimated damage is not yet available.

Displaced residents are receiving help from the Red Cross.

The fire is currently under investigation.
