PEORIA COUNTY (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) - The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office credits a CrimeStoppers tip for leading detectives to a man suspected in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash early New Year’s Day that killed a Peoria man.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said detectives arrested Daniel Dotzert, 46, of Hanna City on Wednesday for leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury.

Coroner Jamie Harwood said Caleb Russell Charlson, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 7600 block of Plank Road in rural Peoria County. His body was found on the roadway after police were called there Saturday about 5:40 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said detectives arrested Dotzert after following up on a CrimeStoppers tip. Police said they found the vehicle at Dotzert’s Hanna City home, and took him into custody.

“The sheriff and detectives would like to thank the Peoria County citizens for the tips that led to this arrest,” the department said in a statement.

Police said the case is still being investigated, and the Peoria County State’s Attorney is considering more charges.
