ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Nyreek Williams, 16 and Fraquon Wright, 17 are both charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm on school grounds. A juvenile male with related charges is also identified with the shooting.
According to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s office, the victims of the shooting were sitting in a parked vehicle in the parking lot at Auburn High School.
Authorities say a tan Buick Lacrosse with Wisconsin license plates passed by the parked vehicle multiple times, stopping behind the victim’s vehicle where Nyreek Williams exited the Buick holding a handgun. A second suspect, Fraquon Wright, also exited the Buick holding a hand gun. Both Williams and Wright approached the victim’s vehicle and opened fire.
A 17-year-old female victim exited and was struck in the leg, while a 17-year-old male victim stayed in the vehicle being targeted and called 9-1-1.
Five spent 9mm casings were recovered at the scene.
Officers located the tan Buick Lacrosse traveling east in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue and followed. Williams, Wright and the unnamed juvenile attempted to flee from officers on foot after crashing the vehicle in the 2900 block of Lapey Street.
Officers found the juvenile male in the area of 2900 Hanson Street without pants or shoes on. His clothing was located in the 2900 block of 11th Street.
A K9 assisted “track” was conducted to find Williams and Wright, who were found hiding in a garage in the 2900 block of Lapey Street.
