Peoria Police Department app launches allowing anonymous tips, viewing alerts
PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - The Peoria Police Department tip app has launched, allowing residents to connect with the department to find information, view alerts and submit anonymous tips from their smartphone.
Announced last month, the app is available on iOS and Android devices, though people can also submit tips via text message or online via the city’s website at www.peoriagov.org/peoria-police-department/tip-411.
The new Peoria PD app enables the public to share an anonymous tip with police and lets officers respond back to create an anonymous two-way conversation.
Those without a smartphone can share information with police by sending an anonymous text tip via their cell phone to police by texting keyword PEORIAPD and their message/tip to 847411 (tip411). Anonymous web tips can also be submitted via the department’s website at www.peoriagov.org/peoria-police-department/tip-411.
“The Peoria Police Department is absolutely dedicated to making our city safer and improving the quality of life on every street, every block, and every neighborhood,” said Police Chief Eric P. Echevarria.
“But we cannot do it alone, we need our community to partner with us, and we believe our new tip411 system will help make it easier for residents to contact us and share information,” the chief said.
The Peoria PD app and tip411 anonymous text a tip system are 100% anonymous, as the technology removes all identifying information before police see the tips and there is no way to identify the sender.
