NORMAL (Heart of Illinois ABC) - It was snowing and cold outside, but inside Redbird Arena Illinois State navigated its way through a tough battle against I-74 rival Bradley. The Redbirds (5-7) beat the Braves (3-7) 64-57 to pick up their fourth win in their last six games.

Both Illinois State and Bradley have struggled this season, even after ISU went 16-9 last season and Bradley won the Missouri Valley Tournament to pick up a spot in the NCAA Tournament. However today’s win puts the Redbirds in the right direction, while the Braves are left searching for answers following their seventh-straight loss.

Gabi Haack led all scorers with 16 points, while Tatum Koenig chipped in 12 points. Mary Crompton led Illinois State with 15 points and was one of five Redbirds to reach double-figures in scoring. Kate Bullman had 12 points, Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor had 12 points, Kayel Newland had 12 points, and Normal native Maya Wong had 11 points.

Next up, Illinois State travels to face Indiana State Jan. 7. Bradley stays on the road to play Evansville Jan. 7.
