UPDATE: Second suspect in Kankakee County cop killing surrenders to police
PEORIA (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) - Both suspects wanted for fatally shooting a Bradley, Illinois police officer and critically wounding a second officer are both in custody, Illinois State Police reported Friday night.
Xandria Harris, 26, accompanied by her attorney, turned herself in at the Bradley Police Department about 4 p.m. Friday, according to a State Police news release.
Harris’ surrender came just hours after police arrested Darius Sullivan Friday morning at a home in North Manchester, Indiana.
Two officers were shot Wednesday while investigating a noise complaint at the Comfort Inn hotel in Bradley, which is in Kankakee County.
Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic was killed. Officer Tyler Bailey, 27, was still fighting for his life, according to State Police.
“In a multi-jurisdictional effort, two alleged cop killers have been taken into custody today and will now face justice,” State Police Director Brendan Kelly said in a prepared statement.
“The Law Enforcement family and the community lost a devoted officer, and another continues to fight for his life,” Kelly also said.
