PEORIA (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) - A 20-year old man is under arrest for a fatal shooting in Peoria that happened in July.

De’Monyae Zaire Phelps, 19, of South Warren Street in Peoria had multiple gunshot wounds when he was found inside a vehicle in the 300 block of South Shelley Street in Peoria on July 20.

Wednesday, the police department’s special investigations division and members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force took Marvin Alexander, 20, into custody without incident in the 3400 block of North Gale Avenue. Alexander faces a first degree murder charge and is being held in the Peoria County Jail.

Phelps’ death was Peoria’s18th of 34 homicides so far this year.

Police said they’re still investigating the case.
