Illinois State and Bradley basketball both stay hot to push winning streaks
NORMAL (Heart of Illinois ABC) - After somewhat of sluggish starts to the season, both Illinois State and Bradley men’s basketball are hitting their stride and playing their best basketball of the young season.
On Tuesday, Illinois State took down UTSA 81-64 at home, pushing their current win-streak to four games. The Redbirds (8-5) have also won six of their last seven games as they head into Christmas break.
“When you can come back and be excited to come back as opposed to dreading, it’s a huge difference with how quickly you can get back in kinda in that flow that we’re in right now. But the biggest thing is these guys really like each other. I think that’s why we’re playing well and I think that will serve us well coming back after Christmas,” said Illinois State head coach Dan Muller.
ISU was once again led by Antonio Reeves who posted 21 points and 10 rebounds, the first double-double of his career. Three other Redbirds scored in double-figures, including Sy Chatman who scored 17 points, Josiah Strong scored 12 points, and Mark Freeman scored 10 points to go with 8 assists.
Bradley is taking part in the Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, TX, playing in their first game on Tuesday against Sam Houston. The Braves took care of business against the Bearkats, winning 87-61 for their fifth win in their last six games.
Bradley (6-6) was led by Terry Roberts, who posted 23 points and 5 rebounds, Malevy Leons, who tallied up 15 points and 5 rebounds, and Ville Tahvanainen, who also added in 15 points. The Braves wrap-up invitational play on Wednesday against host UTEP.
