PEORIA (HEART OF ILLINOIS ABC) - An anonymous texting tip line is coming to Peoria to help police solve crimes.

Peoria Police are launching “Tip 411″ on January 3. Currently, the department relies on Crime Stoppers , which is a third-party anonymous tip line, but police can’t communicate back with the person making the tip.

The new texting tip line will allow police to start a conversation directly with the tipster and ask further questions, said Chief Eric Echevarria.

“I think that’s going to be a game changer for us, where the community will feel like they can communicate with us a little bit better, anonymously better, and we can communicate back with them. So, I’m super excited about that,” said the chief.

Echevarria said the public will receive more updates soon about the new tip line.
