PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Mr. Hopper takes second grade learning at Irving Elementary to a whole different level.

Some even go so far as to say, what he does in the classroom is pure magic.

“He keeps track of all of our house points, we do a Harry Potter theme here so we have four houses, and he keeps track of all the house points and puts out a video weekly, which is really cool.”

“...each one has it’s own color, it’s own meaning, it’s own special name and every kid and teacher is assigned to a house. Those teacher and kids compete throughout the year for points.

The scoring system based on their display of respect, level of caring and being responsible. One of the many reasons Mr. Hopper is proud to be apart of the Irving Elementary staff.

“I’ve been here for eight years and every single day is a new adventure. Every kid at this school is absolutely amazing.”

So, on a cloudy December day, we were able to provide one of those amazing moments.

“Good morning Mr. Hopper, I am so sorry to interrupt, but I have a $1,000 check courtesy of Heart of Illinois ABC because you are our One Class at a Time reward recipient, congratulations!”

“Thank you, oh my gosh this is amazing guys look at this!”

The second grade teacher already with a few ideas, as to how he can split up the money among the Harry Potter houses.

“We have so many things in the works, here at Irving, between our house system, the other things going on at the school. I think this money will go a long way toward helping the whole world see what an amazing school this is and what amazing kids we have here.”

“Thank you Heart of Illinois ABC and CEFCU. ((clapping))
