How the federal infrastructure bill will benefit Illinois
(Heart of Illinois ABC) - The State of Illinois could soon be seeing about $17 billion from President Biden’s $1.2 trillion federal infrastructure bill.
Over the next five years, the state will be getting nearly $10 billion for the construction of roads and bridges.
Nearly $4 billion will be allocated to help fund more options for public transit.
$100 million will go to help over 228,000 Illinois residents get broadband internet.
And over $1.5 billion will be dedicated to improving Illinois’ water infrastructure.
“I’m really really excited,” said Jamie Harrison, chair of the democratic national committee. “And I think the impact of Illinois is probably even gonna be greater than we see in some other states. I know that Gov. Pritzker and democrats in the statehouse and the state senate passed a Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, and I think, as a result of that, it is gonna match perfectly with the infrastructure law that was just passed in Washington D.C.”
The bill also sets aside over $150 million for creating more electric vehicle charging stations.
