Coroner releases autopsy results for child who died in Creve Coeur house fire on her birthday
TAZEWELL COUNTY (Heart of Illinois ABC) - A12-year old girl died from smoke inhalation after a Creve Coeur house fire early Wednesday, Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said Friday.
Hanley’s office performed an autopsy Friday on the body of Madelynn McCain, who died on her 12th birthday when fire swept through the home in the 500 block of Groveland Street in Creve Coeur.
Hanley also classified her death as accidental. Another young girl jumped to safety from a second floor window. She was treated for smoke inhalation and released from OSF St. Francis Medical Center, according to police.
The State Fire Marshal and Creve Coeur firefighters are investigating the fire’s cause.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with expenses.
