Racing might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of your everyday sports.

However for the Shannon family it's all that comes to mind.

For this family, the dirt car racing goes all the way back to the 1940s.

The need for speed in this family began racing legend Herb Shannon. He was the first inductee into the greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame.

Sine then, racing has been a second nature activity for the Shannon's. Racing is something that brings the family closer.

If you ask the the Shannon's they will tell you that being behind the wheel means everything to them. They eat, sleep and bleed dirt card racing.

"There is no vacation from racing. In the off season we are always working on the car trying to get it better, trying to improve our equipment. It's just always going through our heads," says Matt Shannon fourth generation

"The success doesn't come from what your name is. it comes from the work they put in. it takes a lot of work to keep this thing running every week," says Herb Shannon Jr. second generation driver.
