A former nurse has pleaded guilty to residential burglary after stealing opioid patches from patients.

James Relligan, 31, accepted a plea deal in court today. In exchange for pleading guilty to residential burglary, he had other lesser charges dismissed. Relligan must also surrender his nursing license.

Investigators said he stole a pain patch from a person at the Bloomington Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Relligan also allegedly took a patch from a patient at a Normal nursing home.

Relligan is due back in court for sentencing on July 25. He faces anywhere from probation to 15 years in prison.
