Hog carcasses and by-products spilled onto the Murray Baker Bridge were responsible for a major traffic backup Wednesday night.

Around 5 p.m., a truck tractor pulling a semi-trailer filled with hog carcasses spilled in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 74 over the Murray Baker Bridge between mileposts 93 and 94.

All eastbound lanes on the bridge were intermittently closed by first responders during the cleanup effort. All lanes were reopen by 8:10 p.m.

The Illinois State Police issued a citation for spilling a load on the roadway to the driver, 33-year-old Justin Akers of Blandinsville.
